Supporting Young People into Employment

Taylors Journey

See how we've supported young people

The Positive Communities approach

At Positive Communities, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to build a positive future through meaningful employment. For many, taking that first step into work can feel overwhelming, particularly when faced with barriers such as limited qualifications, lack of work experience, financial challenges, confidence issues or difficulties accessing transport.

For a number of years, we have been successfully supporting young people aged 16 and over across South Yorkshire through a combination of funded programmes and voluntary support services. Our approach is centred around creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment where every individual is treated with respect, encouraged to grow, and supported to achieve their goals.

Our experienced team understands that every young person's journey is different. We take the time to understand the barriers they are facing and provide personalised support that builds confidence, develops practical skills and prepares them for sustainable employment. Whether someone is taking their first steps into work or rebuilding their confidence after setbacks, we provide the guidance and encouragement needed to help them succeed.

Alongside employability training, we have provided access to industry-recognised qualifications and licences that employers are actively looking for, helping participants become work-ready and competitive in today's job market. Where transport presents a barrier to employment, we have also supported eligible participants with provisional driving licences, driving theory preparation, practical driving lessons and driving tests, helping to open up more employment opportunities and improve long-term independence.

We recognise the wider social impact that employment can have on young people's lives. By helping individuals develop skills, gain qualifications and secure meaningful work, we contribute towards improving wellbeing, reducing social isolation and creating positive alternatives that can help reduce anti-social behaviour and crime within our communities.

Partnership working is at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with local authorities, charities, schools, colleges, housing providers, youth organisations and a wide range of referral partners across South Yorkshire to ensure young people receive the right support at the right time. These trusted relationships enable us to reach those who need us most and provide a seamless pathway into education, training and employment.

Our strong relationships with local and national employers also play a vital role in our success. We work directly with businesses that are committed to giving young people the opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience, attend guaranteed interviews and secure their first job. By understanding employers' recruitment needs, we are able to prepare participants with the skills, behaviours and confidence needed to thrive in the workplace.

At Positive Communities, our mission is about more than simply helping someone find a job. We are committed to helping young people build brighter futures, develop lasting confidence and create sustainable careers that benefit both individuals and the communities they live in.
